We've heard all sorts of rumors--in the news and from readers--that
Windows 2000 has anywhere from 18,000 to 63,000 programming errors.

Here's how these bug lists are born: During a Microsoft beta test
period, the company assigns a number to each report that a beta tester
sends in. Most of these reports cover features the operating system
doesn't have yet but that the beta tester wants to include. When that
report shows up, Microsoft adds it to the list, so in a sense, the bug
list is just a wish list. A few items in the bug list may relate to
simple cosmetic problems--perhaps a tester noticed an ugly or a
hard-to-see color in a dialog box.
One Big Bug So Far
So far, only one bug has caused problems for Windows 2000, and it's a
relatively harmless glitch for which Microsoft has issued a patch.
This patch corrects security weaknesses in Indexing Services, a tool
that searches for text in files and documents. Microsoft describes the
problem and links to a patch here.

anti-monopole.
