Dernièrement, le gouvernement de l'Île du Prince Édouard a signé un contrat avec Microsoft Canada pour remplacer WordPerfect. Brian M. Hunt a rédigé une lettre ouverte incitant le gouvernement à bien considérer les alternatives.

Shane Schick nous informe dans un article publié le 2 février 2004 que tout espoir n'est pas perdu. Une liste de logiciels utilisés par le gouvernement de Terre-Neuve et Labrador est en ligne et mentionne Linux dans sa section infrastructure.
