do you realy need any reference for the SuSE ?!? ;)
there you only need to start YaST2 and folow the config options propesed
and you will
finish with configured samba.(it's advised by Novell/SuSE team to use
yast for 
the configs) from my experience with it i can configrm you that :) If
how ever you want 
to edit the configs manualy then you can start from the official docs:
http://us5.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/
or
http://us5.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/

ps. 
each linux distro comes with samba-docs package for installation.
AND watch out to not overwrite your configs with the YaST ;)
