Microsoft rides back in Mexico
«Fox's e-Mexico program got a major boost last week, when
Microsoft said that over the next four years it will help run
2,445 computer centers throughout the country, train 20,000
Mexican technicians and 3,000 computer teachers, and provide
free or discounted software and services to low-income
neighborhoods.
"This is the first time a Mexican president has put in
black-and-white a government program to do something regarding
technological development to help his country become more
productive and competitive," said Leonardo Ortiz, Microsoft's
spokesman in Mexico City.
Microsoft's move, estimated to cost about $6 million, is the
latest donation to the e-Mexico program, which has also brought
a $17 million donation from Intel. Hewlett-Packard and IBM are
said to be considering similar deals.»
