I have recently found that Creative Labs has released a driver for the
SBLive! card that should work on an non-SMP Red Hat 6.0 system (you have
to check the readme's for which kernels this applies to). The driver is
available at http://developer.soundblaster.com/linux. While the driver is
free, it certainly isn't open sourced.
I should also note that I am using this driver for my new sound card, the
SB PCI 512, and the card works fine. There is an automated script you can
run that sets up the appropriate modules, then you reboot and you have
sound.
I have not tried this driver out on an actual SBLive! card, but since that
is the card it was written for, I have to assume it should work reasonably
well.
